The harbor at Portoferraio, Elba. Napoleon's house is at the top.

One of the many fishing boats along the quay. Good thing we shoot digitally now. Jan would have rolls and rolls of these kind of photos.
Street scene. Steps leading up to Napoleon's residence.
Napoleon's residence was surprising modest. There was a small back deck and a couple of stone seats. Napoleon only spent 9 months on the island. My guess is that he sat often on this exact bench looking out over the water, trying to figure out his plan for a return to France. Does this sign suggest a curvy steep road? Well, it was.
Here we are parked right up to the town dock in Portoferraio. This photo was taken on Sunday morning. But for the prior night, the entire town turned out to walk the streets, shop the stores, and eat in the restaurants along the quay.
Jan's sailing and minding the store. I'm supervising and commenting on sail shape with an unseen beer in my hand on the way to the Island of Gigilo.
